Students analyze and critique various historical as well as current conceptions of what literary journalism was, is and should be, in both the United States and Canada. They will be encouraged to think philosophically about the value of taking risks in literary journalism, the need to search for meaning when constructing long-form narratives, the desire to layer nonfiction stories with metaphor, and debate the value of the daily news hook versus what constitutes everyday experience.
