This course takes a close look at some of the larger issues that journalists face in their day-to-day work. The list of issues includes, but is not limited to: diversity of race, gender, sexuality and religion in newsroom makeup and story coverage; the changing landscape of news media in the digital age and the revolving notion of who is a journalist in the world of bloggers and citizen journalists; the relationship between journalism and public relations; and the role of news media as a watchdog of democracy.Courses are subject to availability.
